Bubba’s Blankets was inspired by Bubba Marshall, a lifelong St. Paul, Minnesota resident whose final journey came full circle in the neighborhood where he grew up.
After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, Bubba spent his final weeks as a resident at Our Lady of Peace Hospice, the very place located in the same neighborhood where he had lived as a child. During his time there, his daughter bought a few exceptionally soft blankets for his room. They caught the attention of caregivers and staff, who often commented on how soft and comforting they were. Bubba noticed, and true to his generous spirit, asked that a blanket be purchased for every resident.
That simple request had a profound impact. One resident described the blanket as feeling like a hug from a stranger. Another expressed joy at having something so soft and personal. Families later shared heartfelt notes of gratitude, describing the blankets as treasured gifts that brought dignity and peace during an incredibly difficult time.
What began as Bubba’s small but meaningful gesture became Bubba’s Blankets, a nonprofit dedicated to providing soft, washable comfort blankets to individuals receiving hospice care—honoring Bubba’s legacy through compassion, dignity, and human connection when it matters most.
